Azimio leader Raila Odinga has proposed that the upcoming national dialogue on Gen Z issues could trigger a constitutional review. At Lawyer Evans Orwenjo’s burial in Alego Usonga, Odinga advocated for revisiting the 2010 Constitution, which he believes has gaps that need addressing to propel Kenya forward.
Odinga noted that the original Bomas draft constitution, which was heavily revised during the Naivasha process, proposed a bicameral legislature and an executive headed by a premier. He argued that modernizing the constitution by returning to elements of this draft could address pressing issues such as corruption, unemployment, high living costs, debt management, and discrimination—all of which resonate with the demands of young protesters and align with ODM’s long-standing concerns.
He emphasized integrating the grievances of Gen Z with existing political party proposals to forge a better future for Kenya. The Bomas draft emerged from the 1997 Constitution of Kenya Review Act during President Daniel Moi’s era but was contested by then-President Kibaki, who saw it as a threat to the status quo. Odinga’s push for a constitutional review aims to advance national progress.
