Lately, cases of theft have been on the rise in many parts of Kenya. The latest incident involved thieves with lorries storming and looting fruits from several farms in Kangundo and Matungulu areas in Machakos County.
According to Musyi FM’s official Facebook page, the thieves raided the farms at night, loading the stolen fruits onto lorries to transport them to unknown locations. The thieves managed to escape before local residents realized their farms had been targeted.
Preliminary reports indicate that this was not the first time such thefts had occurred in the area. In response to this incident, Gen Z residents held a protest in Matungulu town, demanding justice and better security. The protestors, many on motorcycles, expressed their frustration by singing and criticizing the local authorities for the rising insecurity.
The situation escalated when the protestors blocked the Machakos-Kangundo Highway with bonfires, causing significant traffic disruptions. Police in Kangundo were forced to use tear gas to disperse the crowd. The protest led to a heavy traffic jam, with traffic police working to manage the situation and guide drivers through the congested area.
Demonstrators gathered near the Kangundo Sub-County Offices, demanding immediate action to address the ongoing thefts. They called on the government to provide justice and improve security for the affected residents. The local community hopes that swift action will be taken to resolve these issues and restore peace in the area.
