Five individuals lost their lives in a tragic collision on the Kitale-Lodwar highway involving a motorcycle and a sedan, as reported by authorities. The incident occurred on Monday evening in the Aro area. According to police, the motorcyclist and four passengers riding pillion were fatally injured in a head-on crash with the sedan. The victims included the motorcyclist, a woman, and three juveniles.
Police investigations revealed that the sedan’s driver attempted to avoid hitting a dog that suddenly crossed the road. In the process, the driver veered into the opposite lane, colliding with the motorcycle and causing the fatalities. Fortunately, the sedan’s driver and passenger emerged from the collision unharmed.
Both vehicles sustained significant damage, and the bodies of the deceased were transported to the Lodwar County Referral Hospital mortuary for further procedures. Subsequently, the sedan and motorcycle were impounded at a local police station as part of the ongoing investigation into the tragic incident.
This unfortunate event underscores the increasing frequency of accidents, prompting calls for urgent measures to address road safety concerns. According to data from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), over 1,600 individuals have lost their lives in various accidents over the past six months, highlighting a pressing need for enhanced safety measures on Kenya’s roads.
