It has been a sad day for online taxi drivers in the country after one of them was found hanging on te passenger door of his car at Bee Center Donholm. The heinous incident is said to have taken place at night since it’s around the morning that residents and people working there noticed the lifeless body lying in the ground.
This is not the first time a similar case is reported as there have been increased risks of the online taxi riders during their call of duty. A similar case took place days ago as a taxi driver was brutally murdered and then his taxi car was stolen as his body was left lying lifeless on a pool of blood. This underscores the risks that comes with being a taxi rider.
According to the late night incident that has been shared by recognized Kenyan transport and roads social media page the the risk of losing lives by drivers is increasing daily and yet the authorities or rather concerned bodies are silent about it. Sikika Roads have also challenged authorities asking till when or till how many deaths will they adress the issue and put up safety measures to guard lives.
Despite Taxi and Taxis drivers being pivotal in transportation of goods and people it is also among the dependent means of transport to over a million Kenyans. Since it is convenient, easy, safe and affordable especially at the cities and metropolitans.
However with the increased risks all we can urge the concerned authorities to put up safety measures and try hard to protect the taxi drivers who are depended by very many people in the country. The good name in the industry is also an added advantage as the whole industry is a source of employment to many Kenyans hence a source of revenue.
