Last week, many Kenyan youths (Gen Z) organised nationwide peaceful protests to exercise their democratic right to reject the proposed 2024–2025 Finance Bill. It’s reported that goons took advantage of the situation to harm and steal properties from hard-working business people.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations Kenya, the goons posing as demonstrators earmarked several businesses and looted without mercy.
The premises that were looted included boutiques, electronic shops, and supermarkets, breaking in and massively looting to the detriment of innocent business owners.
Following the mass losses, the DCI’s Imaging and Acoustic Unit, domiciled at the National Forensic Laboratory, has since retrieved numerous CCTV footages. The DCI reported that the footage captured identifiable persons whose criminal acts were contrary to the Gen Z activists’ agenda.
News reaching our news desk reveals that some goons captured in the CCTV footage have been arrested. Other goons are still on the streets, waiting for other opportune times to loot again.
We hope the government will act fast, smoke out the goons, and offer justice to the business people who lost their properties in the protests.
