James Aggrey Orengo, the governor of Siaya and a close associate of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, has recently expressed dissatisfaction with Raila’s decision to collaborate with President William Ruto in forming a broad-based government. Orengo criticized this move, stating that adopting a Cabinet Secretary stance on behalf of the ODM party contradicts both the progressive trend the party supports and the values of the Constitution. He described it as a blatant betrayal and a form of political cannibalism, adding that even hyenas do not consume the corpses of their kind.
His remarks followed the recent public announcement of Ruto’s nominations, which suggested Raila’s willingness to collaborate with Ruto through the appointment of ODM leaders to Cabinet Secretary positions. In his response, Orengo emphasized that “principle is indivisible; it is either wholly kept or wholly sacrificed.”
