Prior to being shot and killed by other officers, Chief Inspector Samson Kipchirchir Kipruto of the Londiani Police Station shot and injured Magistrate Monica Kivuti at the Makadara Law Court. After the magistrate denied his wife’s bail request, Kipruto, who was extremely upset about his wife’s court case, opened fire. Witnessing people who are expected to uphold the law breach it flagrantly and shamefully is abhorrent. Kipruto allegedly became enraged by this ruling, which is why he broke into the courtroom covertly and shot Magistrate Kivuti, wounding her in the hip and chest.
Three more officers were hurt before Kipruto was quickly neutralized by his colleagues in the ensuing confusion as they responded to the gunfire. The wounded cops, who included those struck in the hand, knee, and eye, were rushed to the hospital and were stated to be in stable condition. A Jericho pistol that was found by the authorities at the scene underscores the seriousness of the incident that has taken the legal and law enforcement communities by surprise. Adamson Bungei, the director of Nairobi Police, emphasized the necessity for in-depth investigations while assuring the public of increased security measures in reaction to the unfortunate shooting. Chief Registrar Winfrida Mokaya of the Judiciary expressed profound sorrow and promised that security measures will be strengthened to safeguard all officers.
