This evening, President Dr. William Samoe Ruto received some unfavorable news following a recent court ruling concerning his latest directive.
According to Nation, the labor court has temporarily halted Ruto’s mandate setting a mandatory retirement age for all public servants. Justice Anna Ngibuini has decreed that the directive will remain suspended for the next two months, after which a final decision will be made. Ruto’s directive, which called for the immediate retirement of public servants who have reached the age of sixty, was announced after he withdrew the 2024/2025 finance bill. However, due to today’s ruling, this directive will not be enforced.
The court order stated, “Pending the hearing and determination of this Application inter-partes, a conservatory order be and is hereby issued staying the Presidential directive dated July 8, 2024, on mandatory retirement age for public officers serving on permanent and pensionable terms or any other precipitate action.”
