Today, President William Ruto unveiled the final list of his Cabinet Secretary nominees ahead of Parliament vetting. The president’s selection featured several unexpected faces, with a significant number of retired politicians from the opposition party ODM. Notable figures making a return to public service include former governors Hassan Joho and Wycliffe Oparanya, ODM National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi, and former MP John Mbadi.
Former CS Kipchumba Murkomen, who previously served in the Transport docket, was reappointed to the Sports Ministry, succeeding Ababu Namwamba. Expressing gratitude for his reappointment, Murkomen thanked the president for his trust and the opportunity to serve Kenyans once again as a Cabinet Secretary.
“Honoured and grateful to have been nominated by H.E. the President @WilliamsRuto as the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports. Thank you, Mr. President, for this incredible opportunity to serve our great nation, Kenya,” Murkomen stated.
Acknowledging the recent emphasis on accountability from Kenyans, especially among Gen Z, Murkomen reflected on his past actions and promised to serve diligently. He also asked for forgiveness from those he may have offended through his deeds, lifestyle, or previous service as a Cabinet Secretary.
